Sketchbook – Birds and Cells

These are some of the recent pages from my sketchbook.

The first few pages are based around birds, following on from earlier work I did involving the pattern of feathers. The two paintings are made using a mixture of collage, acrylic paint, stencils and printing. The embroidered blackbird is from a blackwork pattern in ‘The Stitch Bible’ bu Kate Haxell.

These pages are inspired by ‘Cells’ leading on from the work I’ve been doing in my Theme Book about ‘people’. Obviously some of the pages are still work in progress. There is a variety of watercolour and embroidery pieces, as well as acrylic paint on fabric, collage and work on some Crayola water etch-able paper.

The 3 paintings here are part of a series I am continuing to work on, exploring the use of colour and simple shapes, inspired by the work of Josef Albers.
